Hake is a type of marine fish that belongs to the cod family. There are 12 species of hake that can be found in Atlantic Ocean, eastern parts of Pacific Ocean and along the coast of New Zealand. Hake spends most of its life on a depth from 650 to 3.300 feet.

Hake are deep-sea members of the Cod family, found on the continental shelf and slope to depths over 1,000 metres. Hake is a versatile fish with many MSC labelled products found worldwide.

They are a mild fish, having a more subtle flavour than cod. Hake is considered one of the best fish in the whiting family because of its firm, sweet, white meat and medium flake.
